Advice on Data Recovery Quote
Ouch! this other company tried to charge me for data recovery quoted me a whopping $4,199.00 to recover my data from my WD 4TB hard drive that suddenly couldn’t be detected. They said it is a “physical failure”; heads stuck. They said they need to use donor drives, replace heads, resurface sectors and decontaminate. They said it’s a “difficult case” that will take a lot of time and engineers. It’s a fairly new drive. Maybe 2 years old. I’m shocked at the price! Does the quote seem pretty normal; within normal range? (Of course, it failed as I was backing up family pictures I scanned.
I can’t sleep worried I’ve lost them all (1970 on) but will have to get extra work to pay for this as I’m 65, retired and on fixed income. BUT I really need these saved!) They said if I sign a contract and give them my credit card, they will work to grab all data and show me what they were able to recovery which I hope is all photos and other work files. They said they have a 99% success rate. Not sure if that’s 99% recovering 100% or 99% recovering at least something. Thanks. I’m new at this because I’m usually good at backing up all files… until I wasn’t!!!!
THEN I CONTACTED NERDCORE DATA RECOVERY AND THEY QUOTED ME $950.00

When data can no longer be accessed in its usual way, it’s time to bring in a recovery expert. Data recovery is the process of salvaging data from corrupted or damaged storage media devices, such as HDDs, SSDs or flash drives. This corruption could stem from physical damage to the hardware itself or logical damage to the internal filing system. In all scenarios, the objective is the same copy all files stored within the damaged device to a new, accessible device or restore the original device to working order. The method by which data is recovered depends on several factors, including the age of the device, the sophistication of the hardware, and the extent of the storage device failure. If the damage is physical in nature, data recovery experts will attempt to repair the device by replacing affected hardware components. In the case of logical damage, specialized software that can clone raw data and copy it to a new device may be employed.
