The Samsung Odyssey OLED G9/G95SC S49CG95 is a high-end 49-inch QD-OLED monitor. It supersedes the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9/G95NA S49AG95, which features Mini LED backlighting, and is Samsung's second QD-OLED monitor, alongside the Samsung Odyssey OLED G8/G85SB S34BG85. With a 5120x1440 resolution and a super ultrawide 32:9 aspect ratio, it has an 1800R curve that brings the screen's edges closer to your field of view despite its wide screen. Designed for gaming, it boasts a 240Hz refresh rate, and its DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.1 inputs allow you to fully utilize its maximum refresh rate with any graphics card supporting Display Stream Compression. It supports all common variable refresh rate (VRR) formats, such as HDMI Forum VRR, FreeSync, and G-SYNC compatibility. Like other Samsung monitors from 2023, it includes their proprietary Tizen smart platform, providing access to numerous apps without needing a PC.
Note: We initially purchased a unit of this monitor whose inputs failed after one day of testing. We acquired a second unit, which we tested without encountering the same input issue.
Our Verdict
9.1 PC Gaming
The Samsung G95SC is exceptional for PC gaming. It offers a 240Hz refresh rate, ideal for most gamers, and supports all common VRR formats to minimize screen tearing. Motion appears incredibly sharp due to its near-instantaneous response time at any refresh rate, and it delivers low input lag for a responsive experience. However, it does exhibit noticeable VRR flicker in dark scenes with fluctuating frame rates, which can be disappointing if your PC struggles to maintain a steady rate. On the positive side, it delivers excellent picture quality thanks to its near-infinite contrast ratio and vibrant colors.

To achieve the 240Hz refresh rate, you must enable Game Mode; otherwise, it defaults to 120Hz. Additionally, your graphics card needs to support Display Stream Compression (DSC) to attain the maximum refresh rate, which is supported by any NVIDIA 16 Series or AMD RX 5000 Series and newer graphics cards.

The Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 is compatible with all three standard VRR formats, including HDMI Forum VRR. We encountered no issues with VRR, and the monitor's performance remained consistent even without it.
